ronald reagan would not approve of this. what would he do? he would work for a comprehensive immigration reform to give people a chance of living a life of dignity outside of the shadows when they can make a full contribution to the success of our nation. and then finally, if we are to get this right, we need to have civics education elevated not just for immigrants although certainly that is important but for all of us. we can't have an immigration policy where multiculturalism is the core and the ground foundation of the nation. we have to have shared values and the only way to have shared values is for people to embrace them, understand them, appreciate them and that shouldn't just be for immigrants it should be for all of us. it is maddening to see the polls that show people don't know the three branches of government or that the constitution with the declaration of independence or all the things that we see. it's because our schools have not had the incisive focus on restoring civic education to education and that should be part of any i

under ronald reagan, our economy grew 20.1% in the first 14 quarters. under this president, our economy has grown by only 7.5%. and, again, i would argue an awful lot of that has to do with regulations but an awful lot of that has to do with the fact we have increased our debt to unsustainable levels. it is scaring consumers, scaring business people away from investing their capital and growing their businesses. as republicans, as conservatives, we want every american to pay their fair share. we actually want a balanced approach to deficit and debt reduction. we want more revenue flowing to the federal government. but we want to increase revenue the old fashioned way, by growing our economy. just a couple quick little facts. even with the meager economic growth that we've experienced from 2009 to 2012, revenue has increased to the federal government by a total of $344 billion per year. if we just return to a normal economy like we had in 2007 when revenue to the federal government was 18.5% of our economy pretty close to the 50-year average, that would

as we know, because ted olson, ronald reagan's -- george w. bush's solicitor general, one of the founders of the federalist society is going to be arguing before the supreme court that all americans have a constitutional right to marry. we know that this is not a republican versus democratic issue. we know this because we know that marriage is the most stabilizing force in our society. that all americans want to marry the person they love and deserve to have the freedom to me the person they love. we also know that because despite our faith traditions in the republican party, we all believe in the golden rule. we all believe that we want to do unto others as we would have them do unto us, and we believe the loss of the united states of america protect us and guarantee this as our faith traditions do. [cheers and applause] we also know that the supreme court has opined at least 14 times since 1866 that marriage is a fundamental right. fundamental. that is the same as the freedom to be here today to peacefully assemble and speak our mind. the sa
